WOW! My generation has to be the BEST

2011 is the best thing that happened to me. I’ve won numerous awards and achieved a lot. To top everything is that I was chosen as one of the 22 finalists in University of Stellenbosch Matriculant of the year competition. The night of the 25th I was one of the six category winners. I’ve won a R10 000 bursary for 1st year study at US and a laptop worth R12 000. Many of my dreams are becoming reality. As I said in previous posts: “You got to dream big and believe…”

At the Award Ceremony of the University of Stellenbosch Jip Matriculant of the year Competition

“My generation caused the hole in the ozone layer; your generation must close it up. My generation created wars, caused wars of significant numbers and the debts of significant numbers of people, your generation will have to stop it. You’ll have to have stronger values than we had. You’ll have to be different; you’ll have to be the BEST,” was Prof Russel Botman, Rector and Vice-chancellor, message to us. “You are the people who will have to lead the world in the next century that we have before us.”

Mr Rian Truter said: ” There is hope for South Africa!”

Their speeches struck me and left seeds waiting to blossom in my life.

I just want to thank my parents, grandfather, University of Stellenbosch, , Mrs Rupping, Mr Schoeman, Mr van Der Merwe, Mrs A Van Staden,Ms Theron, Mrs Notley, Ms Pretorius,  High School Tulbagh, every teacher and student, Mrs Bartlett, Mrs Lené van Eeden, Mr Rian Truter, Prof Russel Botman, Rozanne Els and everyone who helped me through my entire existence, because I wouldn’t have been the person whom I’m today. Thank You !

To my fellow finalists good luck in everything you want to conquer through your lives. Congratulations! Life is a journey. Bigger and tougher challenges await me in my future and I will be READY! Thank you for the opportunity; it has been a great honour.

“One of the most difficult things everyone has to learn is that for your entire life you must keep fighting and adjusting if you hope to survive. No matter who you are or what your position is you must keep fighting for whatever it is you desire to achieve.” - George Allen

Just imagine it. We are the future. Realise it! WOW!
